Need to KnowScore: Piedmont 16, Oglethorpe 1 Records: Lady Lions 2-1, Stormy Petrels 1-2 Location: Atlanta, Georgia - Oglethorpe UniversityAtlanta, GA - The Piedmont College women's lacrosse team wasted little time getting back to its dominance of in-state foes grounding the Stormy Petrels earlier Wednesday evening in Atlanta by a 16-1 scoreline.
Piedmont owned a 6-0 lead before the midway point of the first half at OU with
ALEXIS NARDUCCI earning hat-trick status with still 15:18 to play in the opening period.
After
JENINE BRIDEAU's goal with 2:39 to play in the first made it 11-0 good guys, the Stormy Petrels would finally get a score tallying a goal with just under 90 seconds to go before halftime.
However, that was the last the home team would see of the cage as Piedmont shut down the Stormy Petrels in the second half not allowing a goal to OU while piling on five more of their own. It was the display of experience for Piedmont in the second half as the five goals all came from veteran players with
KAYLA FREUND scoring twice to join Narducci,
MCKYNSEY DOUGLAS, and
MAGGIE MCDANIEL on the second half scoring sheet.
Douglas finished the night with four goals to lead all scores along with Narducci who also tallied four. Freund put in three goals to finish close behind her teammates in that scoring column.
Picking up her second win in the cage this season was
BLAKE FORREST who needed only to make one save on the evening to earn the win.
Turning Point--Piedmont's dominant 11-goal run that spanned nearly the entire first half as the contest was decided before much time had ticked off the clock in Atlanta.
Standout Performances--Two players scored four for Piedmont including
MCKYNSEY DOUGLAS and
ALEXIS NARDUCCI with Douglas also adding an assist to her totals.
--Veteran
KAYLA FREUND put in a hat-trick performance with three goals amazingly on just three total shots.
Inside the Box Score--Piedmont claimed a dozen draw controls compared to just six for the home team with four Lady Lions claiming a pair each as the leaders.
--Oglethorpe didn't score until just 1:28 remained on the clock in the first half as the Stormy Petrels were shut out in the second half for the first time in three games this season.
--PC was dominant on the stat sheet outshooting Oglethorpe 31-4 in the contest.
News & Notes--Piedmont is now 4-0 all-time against OU outscoring the Stormy Petrels 77-10 in those four meetings including today.Up NextAfter three road games to start the season, Piedmont will return to Walker Athletic Complex to play its 2016 home opener on Sunday, February 21 against last year's undefeated SAA regular season champ Sewanee: The University of the South.
