Demorest, GA - In a USA South battle with in-state rival LaGrange College, the Piedmont College volleyball team was unable to come up with a win at home falling in four to the visiting Panthers on Saturday. 

The loss for Piedmont came in tight scores as the Lady Lions fell 25-23 in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th sets while PC was a 25-18 winner in the third.  

The home team was in front for most of the first set as an ANNA WRIGHT kill made it 14-11, but the Panthers would chip away at the lead before overtaking the Lady Lions on four straight points en route to the 25-23 win in the opener. 

Another tight score came in the second as Piedmont would fight off set point at 24-22 before watching LaGrange win the next rally for a second straight set.  The tune changed in the third as PC was in control throughout winning 25-18 holding an 11-2 lead early.  

However, Piedmont started out slow in the 4th with LaGrange taking a 12-4 lead to open up before PC was able to rally tying it up at 18.  That would be the first of four ties down the stretch in the 1st but LaGrange fought off the effort of PC to take it to five taking the final point on another opportunity for the home team that denied a set point at 24-22. 

Turning Point
--It came in the fourth set as Piedmont was again in a tight score with the visitors pulling within one on an AMANDA TROTTER kill that made it 24-23, but the Panthers responded with a kill of their own that ended it on the next rally.

Standout Performances
--HALEY HIXON was impressive defensively with 35 digs in the four-set match, a new career-high for the sophomore libero in a four-set contest.
--AMANDA TROTTER was the leader at the net with 12 kills on 38 attempts hitting .211 with four errors to her name. 
--LAINEY CHOINIERE had 24 set assists on the day while EMILY PETERS had 19 herself as the two split time at the setting position.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont had the edge in service aces with eight compared to three for LaGrange, but the Lady Lions also had 13 costly service errors compared to only five for the Panthers.
--Each set that Piedmont lost came by a 25-23 scoreline on the afternoon. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont's last two outings against the Panthers were close contests as the Lady Lions won in five in September of 2015 before taking a 3-1 win later that same year.
--Both PC and LaGrange were scheduled to face Fisk University for an October 8 tri-match, but the Bulldogs were unable to make the trip to Cave Arena cancelling the pair of contests.

Up Next
Another conference battle for the Lady Lions who host Maryville College on Sunday, October 9 for a 1:00 pm first serve.  The contest will be broadcast live over the Mane Event Broadcasting Network for fans unable to make it to Cave Arena while live stats will also be available.
