Danville, VA - The Piedmont College women's tennis team picked up yet another win on the week with a 9-0 shutout of Averett University on the road in USA South play.

The Lady Lions earned the win with all six singles matches coming in straight sets as CHRISTIAN WADE won at #1 singles 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) defeating Hannah Mattson for the 6th singles win of her freshman year.  The win was the second straight for Wade and matched the same streak for the winner at #2, AMANDA BLACKWELL, who took a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Jessie Gomes for her 7th victory this season.

NICOLE PARRISH was the winner at #3 singles to improve on her team-high now nine singles wins as she has won three straight and is now 9-5 at the #3 singles slot this year.  Newcomers accounted for the remaining three wins in singles play with DURDEN SMITH, MORGAN COWART, and KARINA RIVERA all taking 6-1, 6-0 decisions at the #4, #5, and #6 singles spots respectively.

In doubles action, veterans AMANDA BLACKWELL and NICOLE PARRISH accounted for the victory at the #1 doubles spot 8-1, the same score that Piedmont's #2 pairing of MORGAN COWART and DURDEN SMITH won by for their second straight doubles decision.  For Blackwell and Parrish, the win was their 7th of the season, a team-best amongst the Lady Lions.

The final doubles win went to CHRISTIAN WADE and TATIANA BURKETT who took a close 8-6 decision to secure Piedmont's second straight shutout with both of those wins coming in conference play.

The win wraps up Piedmont's regular season putting the Lady Lions at 7-10 overall but 6-5 in conference play as today's win secured PC a spot in the upcoming USA South Championship Tournament for the Lady Lions.  The Green and Gold finished 6th in the USA South regular season standings taking the final spot in the league's championship field.

Entering the postseason as the #6 seed, Piedmont will play the #3 seed Huntingdon College on Friday, April 17 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

The match with the Hawks is set to start at 2:00 pm on the campus of North Carolina Wesleyan College, this year's regular season champion in women's tennis and the host site for the 2015 USA South Championship Tournaments in men's and women's tennis.
