Danville, VA - The Piedmont College men's tennis team got out to another quick lead and never looked back winning 6-3 over Averett University earlier today on the road in USA South action.  

The Lions took all three doubles decisions with the New Zealand brothers, MATTHEW METZGER and NATHAN METZGER, winning 8-1 at the top spot over James Wright and Nicolas Quevedo.  After the win by the pair better known as "Metzger Squared", Piedmont saw MASON RIZA and BRYAN BARNETT take the win at #2 doubles with an 8-5 decision as the Lions controlled the match with a 3-0 lead after doubles play. 

With the advantage in hand heading into singles play, Piedmont picked up wins at #6 singles and #5 singles with ROBBIE WERNER collecting his team-best 4th straight decision on a 6-3, 6-1 win over Rustam Aliev.  

At the top spot, it was the youngster NATHAN METZGER who continued his winning ways with a 6-4, 6-3 straight sets win at the #1 singles spot moving him to an even 8-8 overall on the year.  Metzger is now 5-4 in nine singles decisions within conference play having won four of his last five singles decisions against USA South foes.  

The victory moves Piedmont to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in USA South play.  With the regular season now complete for PC, the Lions have posted their third straight top four finish in the league standings as Piedmont has never finished outside the top four since becoming a USA South member prior to the 2013 season. 

The Lions will be the #4 seed in the upcoming USA South Championship Tournament and are set to face the #5 seed LaGrange College in the Quarterfinals on Friday, April 17 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.  
The match with the Panthers is set to start at 10:00 am on the campus of North Carolina Wesleyan College, home to the regular season champion Battling Bishops and the host site for the 2015 USA South Championship Tournaments in men's and women's tennis.
