Atlanta, GA - The Piedmont College men's tennis team could not overcome an early doubles deficit in today's 8-1 loss to hosting Oglethorpe University as the Stormy Petrels moved to 7-6 with the win over PC.
The Lions trailed only 2-1 after the doubles section of the match taking the decision at #3 with
MASON RIZA and
BRENT JENKINS combining for the victory. The two knocked off Judd Motz and Josh Rosenberg 8-4 to keep PC in the contest heading into singles action.
However, the Lions dropped all six singles spots with four of those coming in straight set decisions as
MATTHEW METZGER and
BRYAN BARNETT each pushed their individual matches to three sets.
With the non-conference loss, Piedmont falls to 4-6 overall having dropped its last two matches after a win on March 27 over Millsaps College.
The Lions will jump back into USA South play as only conference opponents remain on the regular season docket for PC in 2015. Piedmont will play five straight conference matches in nine days to wrap up the regular season starting on Friday when the team travels to face Maryville College in a 1:00 pm match.
Piedmont will return home for its final contest at Burgen in 2015 when the Lions host Huntingdon College on Saturday April 4 with first serve set to drop at 12:00 pm.
