Need to KnowScore: Piedmont 3, Fisk 0 - Piedmont 3 , Oglethorpe 1Records: Lady Lions 18-14 ( 9-7 USA South), Bulldogs 16-11, Stormy Petrels 7-24Location: Atlanta, Georgia - Oglethorpe University Atlanta, GA - The Lady Lions ended the regular season on a strong note picking up a pair of convincing victories over Fisk University 3-0 and Oglethorpe University 3-1. Piedmont ends the regular season at 18-14 overall and earned the #3 seed in the USA South Conference tournament coming next weekend.
Piedmont swept the Bulldogs in the first match of the day by a score of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17. The first set was a series of runs to begin the match as Piedmont went up 6-0 only to see Fisk score six straight themselves. All three sets were fairly close but in the third, Piedmont reeled off seven straight points to take a 19-12 lead and never let up.
TAYLOR CRAMSEY led the team with 11 kills as she put in work across the board adding five digs and two aces. Cramsey hit .370 while AMANDA TROTTER hit .444 with five kills. EMILY PETERS had 26 assists and six digs while HALEY HIXON led the team with nine digs.
Against Oglethorpe, Piedmont took the first two sets 25-22, 25-18 before dropping the third set 25-21. The Lady Lions rebounded to take the fourth set to seal the match in decisive fashion 25-11.
Cramsey had an explosive game with 17 kills and a .310 attack percentage giving her 292 kills for the regular season while fellow senior MALLORY LEARY was second on the team with 8 kills. Peters had 17 assists while also adding 2 kills herself and HALEY HIXON had 26 digs in the regular season finale. Turning Point--Piedmont scored seven straight in the final set against Fisk to put away the Bulldogs.
--The Lady Lions dropped the third set against Oglethorpe but handled the Stormy Petrels quickly in the fourth set 25-11.
Standout Performances--Cramsey's 17 kills are the third most she has tallied this season.
--Hixon's 26 digs are the third most she has had this season as well.
Inside the Box Score--Cramsey has the chance to eclipse 300 kills this season with just eight in the Lady Lions' next contest in the USA South tournament.
News & Notes--The Lady Lions are just two wins away from extending a streak of winning 20 games each season for the past ten seasons. Up NextThe Lady Lions made the USA South conference tournament as the #3 seed in the South Division and will be taking on Meredith College on Friday, November 6 at 5:00 p.m. All tournament matches will be played at Covenant College just a short drive away for Piedmont.
