Peters' Pair of Double-Doubles Not Enough Against Meredith and Methodist

Raleigh, N.C. - In the final USA South tri-match of the season, Piedmont dropped a pair of contests to Meredith 3-2 and Methodist 3-1. The Lady Lions nearly took the five set match from the North Division leaders but came up just two points shy of sealing the match. 

Against Meredith, the Avenging Angels took the first two sets 25-23 and 28-26 putting Piedmont behind 2-0. The Lady Lions fought back to take the next two sets 25-21 and 25-15 before dropping the final set 15-13. Piedmont held a 9-5 lead in the fifth set but saw their last three points of the match come on errors by the Avenging Angels.

MALLORY LEARY has come on strong as of late in her senior season as she again led Piedmont with 14 kills as four lady Lions were in double-digits for kills including AMANDA TROTTER who had 12 kills and a .375 attack percentage. EMILY PETERS posted another double-double as she had 50 assists and 17 digs.

In the second match of the day against Methodist, the Lady Lions dropped the first set 25-20 before taking the second set 25-18 to even the match at 1-1. The Monarchs took the final two sets by a score of 25-18 though Piedmont held a lead early in the third set. 


TAYLOR CRAMSEY led the team with 12 kills while Leary again was in double-digits with 11 and an attack percentage of .381. Peters added another double-double to her impressive total as she had 34 assists and 10 digs. 

Turning Point
--Piedmont kept pace with the top team in the North Division losing only by two in each of the three sets against Meredith. 
--The Lady Lions were up 7-1 in the third set against the Monarchs but let Methodist make a 9-1 run to give momentum to the Monarchs. 

Standout Performances
--Leary continued her dominance on the court with 14 kills against Meredith and added 11 against Methodist.
--Peters posted a pair of double-doubles with 50 assists and 17 digs against Meredith while having 34 assists and 10 digs versus Methodist.

Inside the Box Score
--EMILY PETERS has now posted 11 double-doubles in her freshman season. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont took the top team from the South Division (Covenant) and the top team from the North Division (Meredith) to five sets, dropping both final sets by a score of 15-13 in back-to-back matches.

Up Next
The Lady Lions travel to take on Maryville College on October 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the final USA South contest of the regular season for Piedmont. The Lady Lions fell to the Scots 3-1 inside Cave Arena on October 4.
