Women's Soccer Takes 1-0 Decision from Visiting William Peace in USA South Matchup

Box Score Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's soccer team outshot visiting William Peace University 26 to one but could only find the net once in a 1-0 win over the Pacers in the team's second USA South contest in as many days.  The Lady Lions dominated the run of play but continued to struggle getting on the scoreboard as it was a first-half goal from Kalyn Dumanowsky that set the two apart on Saturday evening at Walker Athletic Complex.

Piedmont used its depth on Saturday, the second of back-to-back games in league play, as 22 Lady Lions saw the field with nine different players taking PC's 26 shots on the day.  Piedmont also took ten corners without allowing one to the visiting Pacers, but the play of Shannon Maddex in goal for William Peace help the Pacers absorb the pressure from the home team as the keeper made nine saves on the day including one on a penalty kick in the final minutes.

The goal from Dumanowsky came in the 19th minute of play when a shot from Shayna Rogers was too much for Maddex to handle causing a rebound that fell to a waiting Dumanowsky.  The sophomore forward calmly tucked the ball into the Pacers' net to give Piedmont the 1-0 lead and eventual 1-0 victory in conference play.

Despite being unable to get much going offensively on the day, the Lady Lions' defense helped Michaela Gardner collect her third straight shutout by a 1-0 score as William Peace was limited to just one shot in the match.  Gardner moves to 5-2 as a starter while Maddex collected the loss for the Pacers falling to 2-5-1.

Piedmont is now 5-2 overall and 2-0 in USA South play following today's win.  The team will have the week off from competition before heading to North Carolina for likely a season-defining weekend facing Meredith College on Friday and Methodist University on Saturday.  Kickoff against the Avenging Angels on Friday afternoon is set for 4:30 pm.
