Box Score Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College men's soccer team needed overtime earlier today to get past visiting Trinity Baptist College after the Eagles tied the match with just over two minutes remaining in regulation. However, in perhaps the biggest spot of his young Lions career, freshman
Chase Kane came up with the golden goal heading away a rebound for the 2-1 victory over the Eagles in PC's second overtime contest through five games this season.
Piedmont controlled the run of play throughout the afternoon outshooting the visiting Eagles 17 to nine in regulation and tallied all four chances in the overtime period. The Green and Gold took a 1-0 lead into halftime after seeing freshman
Chase Kane break through the Trinity Baptist backline and score his second goal of the week after having notched a goal in Piedmont's 4-0 win over Toccoa Falls on Tuesday night.
Kane's goal in the 30th minute, with the assist going to
Matthew Metzger, looked like it may stand as the gamewinner as Trinity Baptist would go down to ten men in the 2nd half following a red card in the 55th minute. Despite the game starting to open up with the man advantage, Piedmont continued to see defensive breakdowns as the Eagles created chances causing the backline of the Green and Gold to absorb pressure throughout the closing minutes.
With the lead in hand late, Piedmont's hometown fans would be stunned as the Eagles equalized with just over two minutes to go in regulation forcing overtime after Josh Freeman capitalized on a defensive lapse by the Lions. Tied now 1-1, the two would need overtime to decide a winner at Walker Athletic Complex though not much time would be required for the youngster Kane to play the part of the hero once more in the match.
Piedmont quickly applied pressure in the overtime period firing four shots in the first five minutes, but it was the header from
Chase Kane in the 95th minute that spelt doom for the visiting Eagles as he tucked away his second score of the game and third of the week to hand the golden goal victory to PC.
Kane led the team with his ten shots on the game including the two goals while #Vincent Thomas added three of his own. Trinity Baptist was led in the shots department by Josh O'Hara with his three while Freeman accounted for the lone score.
The win moves Piedmont to 3-2 overall as the Lions head into conference play now opening with Ferrum College at home next Friday, September 19th. The Lions have opened USA South play against Ferrum in each of the last two seasons PC has been a member of the league going 0-1-1 in those contests.
