Box Score Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's soccer team saw their home opener go as planned tonight taking a 1-0 victory from Agnes Scott College at Walker Athletic Complex earlier this evening. The Lady Lions held control of the in-state rivalry until finally netting a game-winning goal with just over 20 minutes remaining as the Green and Gold will host two more home games next weekend after starting with four road games this season.
Piedmont used 24 players outshooting the Scotties 17 to five including a 10 to three margin in the second half alone. Agnes Scott keeper Sydney Holstad was forced to make six saves on the evening as Piedmont applied constant pressure though the Scotties did manage to break through the home team backline more than once to keep PC on its heels despite the constant attacks.
Scoreless at half, the game would be decided in the 70th minute with
Kalyn Dumanowsky taking a
Whitney Lambert pass and putting it over the outcoming Holstad for the one and only goal in the match. The Scotties did get chances in the waning minutes forcing Piedmont keeper
Michaela Gardner to come out and make a save to keep the home team in front.
For Dumanowsky, the goal is her fourth of the season putting her alone up top as the leading scorer for the Lady Lions who have tallied ten goals through five games while allowing four. Dumanowsky tied for the team lead tonight with her four shots along with sophomore
Megan Hatfield with each finding the target twice.
Helene Somda was the only Scottie to tally multiple shots with three on the night including two that forced Gardner to make saves.
With the win, Piedmont moves to 3-2 on the season and wins their seventh straight home opener under Head Coach
Stephen Andrew with PC moving to 7-0 in such contests. The Lady Lions will have a week off before they return to the field for a home match against Ferrum College to open conference play on Friday, September 19th. Kickoff is set for 4:30 pm and the match will be carried live over the
Mane Event Broadcasting Network.
