Box Score 2 Birmingham, AL - Head Coach
Sid Feldman's Piedmont Volleyball team picked up where they left off last season with two impressive victories at the MckAttack Classic in Birmingham Friday evening. The Lady Lions swept Sewanee, 3-0, and handled fellow USA South conference opponent LaGrange in four sets, 3-1.
In the first match against Sewanee, Piedmont continued its success against the Tigers having now won six of the last seven match-ups between these two. After a decisive 25-18 victory in the first set, the Lady Lions had to fight for the next two winning the remaining sets 25-23 and 25-22 respectively.
Against the Tigers,
Kaitlin Norman had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, while
Katie Faith led the team with 13 digs. Behind the two seniors in both categories was freshman
Randee Harvel who came up just short of a double-double in her first collegiate start tallying nine kills and nine digs.
Next up for the Lady Lions was a familiar foe in LaGrange College who was picked to finish fourth in the South Division of the conference just two spots behind Piedmont. PC earned a statement win knocking off the Panthers in four sets despite having some trouble against their block.
Faith showed up big again with a team high 19 digs in the match while
Heather LaPrade & newcomer
Kait Steele both recorded 19 assists. Norman had her second double-double of the day against the Panthers with a team high 16 kills and 10 digs.
The Lady Lions will continue their action at the MckAttack Classic tomorrow with two matches including facing the host team Birmingham Southern who split their matches Friday. In the first of those match-ups, Piedmont will hit the court to take on Mount St. Joseph tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
