Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College men's tennis team had absolutely no trouble with visiting Maryville College taking a 9-0 shutout decision over the Scots at Burgen Tennis Courts earlier this afternoon.  The Lions dropped just four games total taking all six singles matches in straight sets while two of the three doubles decisions came in 8-0 shutouts for the boys from Demorest.

Two of the games Maryville took came at #1 doubles though Joel Silverberg and Mason Riza still claimed a 8-2 decision to earn a win in their debut as a doubles pairing in 2014.  Winning at #2 doubles was Robbie Werner and Christopher Davidson as the duo has played all nine matches at doubles together, and have a 5-4 record in that span.  The win at #3 doubles went to Jay Evans and Trey Martin, a duo which also won in their first doubles matchup together.

Winning at #1 singles was Matthew Metzger with a 6-1, 6-0 decision as he picks up his fourth singles win of the season while Silverberg and Martin got wins at #2 and #3 singles respectively, each in 6-0, 6-0 fashion.  Also taking 6-0, 6-0 decisions was Mason Riza at #4 singles and Jay Evans at #6 singles while the win at #5 went to Robbie Werner who moves to 3-2 on the season.

The win puts Piedmont now at 5-4 on the season and 3-2 in conference play with the W over the conference foe, Maryville.  PC has posted 9-0 decisions in three of their five match wins on the season including the shutout this afternoon.

Piedmont now will turn its attention to the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University who come to Demorest tomorrow afternoon for a 3:30 pm first serve at Burgen Tennis Courts.
