Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College men's tennis team completed a big 7-2 win over Southern Wesleyan University earlier today at Burgen Tennis Courts taking down the NAIA member institution courtesy of a hot start.  The victory moves Piedmont to an even 3-3 on the season as the Lions had dipped below .500 with a loss yesterday afternoon before picking up the win today over SWU, a home victory that improved PC to 2-1 at Burgen this season.

Piedmont started its run to the win with a pair of victories in doubles action as Matthew Metzger and Mason Riza combined for a 8-6 tight decision at the #1 doubles slot while Patrick Steck and Joel Silverberg got a win at the #3 doubles spot.  Steck and Silverberg made short work of their doubles foe winning without dropping a game, 8-0.

In singles action, Silverberg and Steck each also picked up an individual decision with Silverberg's coming at the #2 spot while Steck got his at #4.  Silverberg had to go to a tiebreak after winning the first set 6-1 and losing the second 4-6, but the senior took the tiebreak 10-7 to account for the win.  Steck won 6-0, 6-2 at the #4 spot to move to 2-2 on the season in singles action.

One of the remaining wins in singles play went to Trey Martin at the #3 slot as he won 6-4, 6-2 over Delaby of Southern Wesleyan while Mason Riza won easily 6-0, 6-0 at the #5 spot.  Newcomer Robbie Werner also won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 with his win coming at #6 singles.

Piedmont moves to 3-3 getting even on the season while winning two of the three on the season at the famed Burgen Tennis Courts which have housed ten conference championship teams since 2001.  

The Lions will now move back into conference play this coming weekend when they travel to North Carolina Wesleyan College for a match on Friday, March 21st.  Action is slated to begin at 3:00 pm in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
