Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College men's tennis team picked off a pair of decisions, but fell 7-2 to visiting Millsaps College earlier today in a home match for the boys from Demorest. The Lions were able to snare a win in doubles and singles play, but fall to 2-3 overall with the non-conference decision.
Getting the win in doubles play was the pair of
Christopher Davidson and
Robbie Werner as the two won 8-2 over Millsaps' Thomas Mills and Taylor Thomas. However, the Majors picked up the remaining two doubles decisions to hold a 2-1 advantage heading into the singles portion.
Millsaps took singles decisions #2, #3, and #5 in straight sets but
Matthew Metzger and
Trey Martin each gave strong fights at the #1 and #4 slots respectively. Both Metzger and Martin fell in tiebreak fashion to their opponents as those two decisions showed how close these two could have been in the end had the ball bounced PC's way instead.
As
Joel Silverberg also fell in a close 6-4, 6-4 decision at the #2 spot, it was
Mason Riza who accounted for the lone singles decision that swayed the way of Piedmont as he won in straight sets easily 6-0, 6-0. Riza moves to 3-2 in five singles decisions in the 2014 season.
Piedmont falls to 2-3 with the loss today which came out of USA South action. The Lions return to action tomorrow with a home match against Southern Wesleyan University who visits Burgen Tennis Courts for a 1:00 pm match.
