Box Score Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College baseball team lit up the scoreboard at Loudermilk Field once again plating 16 runs in a 13-run victory over visiting Greensboro College to move to 2-0 in league play. The Lions have now posted 27 runs in the pair of games against the Pride as the three-game series between the pair of USA South foes is set to wrap up tomorrow afternoon in Demorest with first pitch set for 2:00 pm.
Getting the win on the mound for PC was freshman sensation
Preston Graham who went six strong with three runs allowed on four hits walking three and fanning a half dozen. Out of the pen for an inning each came
Allen Tokarz,
Matt Stephens, and
Carl Allen, a trio that allowed only one hit over the final three innings.
Piedmont scored three in the first inning with all of those scores coming on a bases clearing triple from the big right fielder
Evan Gresham who is hitting .375 on the season, 11th best in the entire USA South. After adding a run in the bottom of the second on a sac fly from senior
Josh Bailey, Piedmont would give up three runs in the top of the third as Graham would work on the mound to strand a pair and get PC out of the frame with the lead intact though it was now just one after three complete.Â
A score in the PC 4th coupled with four runs in the 6th saw the Lions get comfortable again as
Breck Davidson blasted the game's third triple and scored a pair of runs in the middle inning maylay. Leading 9-0 through six, Head Coach
Jim Peeples turned the ball over to its bullpen who worked the Pride lineup over sitting down Greensboro in order in the 8th before heading to the home half when Piedmont added seven runs on just four hits to blow the game wide open.
In that Piedmont 8th, the story would be the location of Pride pitches as the Lions patiently drew six walks in the inning with three of the last four coming in bases loaded situations. The Lions scored five of their seven runs in the inning before Greensboro had even recorded an out as four different arms were used to get the Pride out of the inning.
Piedmont's 16-3 victory saw nine different Lions account for RBIs on the day led by
Evan Gresham's four, three of which came on his triple in the first. Also making waves was
Breck Davidson who, like Gresham, tripled as the two lead the team with their third multiple-RBI game of the season coming this afternoon in the 13-run victory over Greensboro.
Driving in a pair was the senior Bailey who also walked twice as he pushes his walk total in the series to six as he became the first player in the program's history to draw four walks in a single game twice in his career doing so in last night's 11-3 win over GC.Â
Keith Grabowski went a perfect 2-of-2 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and runs scored.Â
The Lions picked up 14 hits as a team in 30 at-bats while Greensboro was able to only pick up five hits in the exact same number of at-bats. PC also more than doubled up the opponent in walks with 11 as a team to five for visiting GC. Piedmont has now outhit Greensboro 25-10 in the series through two games.
The win puts Piedmont now at 8-2 on the season and keeps the Lions perfect in USA South play at 2-0, an important start as the league's regular season champion will earn the automatic berth into the NCAA National Tournament, with one of those regional sites of course being Loudermilk Field here in Demorest.
Piedmont will now wrap up its series with the Pride tomorrow afternoon when the teams battle in a Sunday afternoon affair. First pitch at Loudermilk Field is set for 2:00 pm and live coverage of the finale will be provided courtesy of the
