Volleyball Sweeps USA South Foes Mary Baldwin, Greensboro

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College Volleyball team got back in the win column picking up two USA South victories Saturday in straight set fashion inside Cave Arena. The Lady Lions swept Mary Baldwin and won in straight sets against Greensboro for the second time this season.

In the first match of the day, Piedmont won decisively against Mary Baldwin taking the first set 25-15, improving by one in the second to a 25-14 victory and easily won the third set 25-12. The Lady Lions held the Fighting Squirrels to a negative attack percentage in the match and only 23 kills.

The Lady Lions were led by Jennifer Opper and Taylor Cramsey who both recorded 7 kills in the match while Opper also had an impressive .538 attack percentage. Kait Steele led the way with 13 assists and Katie Faith had a team-high 9 digs while Kaitlin Norman added 6 digs.

Against Greensboro, Piedmont had a tougher time with each set coming within five points. In the first set Piedmont won 25-23 and took the second 25-21, but in the third, the Lady Lions had to outlast a late Pride run to win 26-24. PC was at match point 24-18 and saw the Pride come back to knot it up at 24 before the Lady Lions iced Greensboro and put it away.

Kaitlin Norman tallied 10 kills while Mallory Leary, Randee Harveland Cramsey all added 7. Norman was hitting a hot .562 in the match and also had 7 digs. Katie Faith led the team with 17 digs while Xandy Green and Steele split the assists with 15 and 13 respectively.

This marked the first time this season Piedmont gave up more than 45 kills and was able to record a win.

The victories Saturday snapped a four match losing streak by the Lady Lions and moved Piedmont to 5-1 at home during 2014. PC is now 4-2 in the conference and 12-7 overall.

The Lady Lions will be back in action Tuesday night on the road at North Greenville University in Tigerville, S.C. with the match set to begin at 7 p.m.
