Box Score Toccoa Falls, GA - The Piedmont College women's soccer team picked up their fifth win in their last seven games earlier today with a 3-0 shutout at local rival Toccoa Falls College. The win is the first over the Eagles since the two programs last met in 2011 when the Green and Gold rolled over TFC in a 4-0 shutout at Walker Athletic Complex, a win that came in the midst of a 13-game unbeaten streak for the Lady Lions.
Piedmont outshot the Eagles a remarkable 20 to one with Toccoa's lone shot coming on goal in the first half forcing Lady Lion keeper
Ashlie Gonzalez to make a save in her first collegiate start. The youngster from Gainesville, Georgia would go on to record the shutout in her debut playing the full 90 minutes between the sticks for PC.
Scoring what would be the eventual gamewinner was another freshman in
Tori Gillett as her bullet header on a service from sophomore
Haley Hall found the net just 56 seconds into the game, the Lady Lions' quickest score on the season so far. Not waiting long to make it 2-nil, Piedmont's
Whitney Lambert doubled the margin in the 12th minute when she put away a
Megan Hatfield pass to score her first goal of the year putting the visitors up by a pair early.
The Lady Lions held the two-goal advantage through halftime dominating the run of play in the contest away from home between the two North Georgia rivals. In the second half, PC scored the third and final goal of the 3-0 win as Toccoa native
Nikki Means scored in a senior homecoming for the Lady Lion veteran as she throttled home a
Mollie Leeuwenburg assist on one of four corners for the visitors on the day.
Lambert led the team with her four shots, two of which hit the frame while two others added three each to follow the junior in that column.
With the win, Piedmont moves to 7-3-1 overall as the Lady Lions are now 4-2 in their six non-conference contests this season. The match was a step out of USA South play for the Lady Lions who have faced five straight league opponents prior to today with the last three of that five-match streak all coming away from the friendly confines in Demorest.
The Lady Lions will be back in action this coming Monday night with a 7:00 pm kickoff against the visiting Vikings of Berry College at Walker Athletic Complex. The home contest for PC will be aired live on the Mane Event Broadcasting Network with pregame festivities starting 10 minutes prior to kickoff.
