MATCH FACTS Piedmont will host visiting North Carolina Wesleyan in a USA South Quarterfinal contest to begin the league's championship tournament on Saturday, November 1. Kickoff in the match is set for 2:30 pm at Walker Athletic Complex and comes as a part of two home contests as volleyball also hosts a home tri-match with NC Wesleyan and William Peace starting at noon.
THE COACHES Lady Lion Head Coach Stephen Andrew, a Piedmont graduate himself, will lead his team into this weekend after a banner year that has seen his team earn 14 wins with ten of those coming in conference play. His career record now of 105-46-6 puts him as the winningest coach in the history of Piedmont women's soccer as he is one of the fastest to 100 wins in the history of Division III. In conference tournament games under Coach Andrew, PC is 9-4 heading into Saturday.
Leading the Battling Bishops is Beverly Biancur who is in her 8th year as the Head Women's Soccer Coach at NC Wesleyan. With over 20 years of coaching experience at varying levels, Biancur came to NC Wesleyan following a stint at Roanoke College as an assistant. She spent her playing career at Radford where she graduated in 1987.Â
SCOUTING NC WESLEYANNC Wesleyan comes into the quarterfinals off a major result to end the USA South regular season having tied Meredith on Wednesday in a scoreless draw. Prior to that, N.C. Wesleyan had won four straight in shut out fashion over William Peace, Mary Baldwin, Huntingdon and LaGrange. The Battling Bishops have had eight shut outs this season while Piedmont has posted 13 over the course of 2014. The Battling Bishops are 2nd in the league in scoring with 2.4 goals per game on average. NC Wesleyan has posted five straight shutouts as well with four of those matches resulting in wins. The last time the Battling Bishops surrendered a goal was in a home loss on October 10 - to Piedmont, 1-0.
SERIES RECORDSThese two have matched up five times since 2010 with the last three coming as conference foes. Piedmont is 5-0 in the series with four coming by way of shutout. However, the last matchup between the two was only a 1-0 win for PC as the Lady Lions needed a goal in the closing minutes to earn the win.
GETTING DEFENSIVEThe postseason showdown between the two features a lockdown of two the league's best defensive teams as the Lady Lions and Battling Bishops are two of just three teams in the conference to allow a goals against average less than one.
ROAD TO THE CHAMPIONSHIPThe Lady Lions finished as the second seed in the USA South and for the second year in a row will have played host to a quarterfinal game at Walker Athletic Complex. Last season, Piedmont hosted Greensboro in the first round of the tournament before making their impressive tournament run in Martinsville, Virginia to claim the 2013 USA South Tournament Championship, their first-ever tourney title in the USA South, with a 2-1 win over Meredith College in the final. PC earned a 1-0 win over the Pride in that home quarterfinal from 2013.
OVER THE QUAD & INTO THE GYMNASIUMBoth teams come into today on undefeated streaks of five games or more. Piedmont closed out the 2014 regular season with seven straight wins with all those coming in USA South action. That 7-game winning streak started with a 1-0 win at their quarterfinal opponent, North Carolina Wesleyan.
Following their loss to Piedmont, the Battling Bishops went 4-0-1 not allowing a single goal in more than 500 consecutive minutes of action, all coming in conference play.
LOOKING BACK AT 2014 REGULAR SEASONPiedmont ends the 2014 regular season with a .763 winning percentage and a 14-4-1 overall record, while posting a 7-1 record inside the Walker Athletic Complex. The lone loss at home came against Berry College in a hard fought 4-2 defeat. The Lady Lions have won their last seven, including the last four at home, marking their longest win streak of the season. The Lady Lions have won their last eight USA South contests.

LAST TIME OUT: COVENANT COLLEGEPC sent its seniors out with another 1-0 win on Wednesday night knocking off USA South foe Covenant College at Walker Athletic Complex.  By doing so, the Lady Lions forced a share of the USA South Regular Season Championship and claim their first regular season title of any kind since becoming a NCAA Division III member back in 2003. The only goal of the contest came just before halftime while PC outshot Covenant 11 to seven.Â
Honored prior to kickoff were the Lady Lions' three seniors graduating this year as veteransÂ
KELSEY SCHAFFERNOTH,Â
SHAYNA ROGERS, andÂ
NIKKI MEANS all played what will be their second to last home game at Walker Athletic Complex earlier tonight.  The three are the only senior class in the program's NCAA Era to boast two conference tournament titles, two NCAA National Tournament appearances, and a conference regular season title as well.
NEXT UP FOR PIEDMONTIf the Lady Lions were to win on Saturday in the USA South quarters, PC would face the winner of #3 seed Methodist University & #6 seed Covenant College. PC defeated Covenant 1-0 on Wednesday while playing Methodist to a scoreless draw earlier in the season.
