Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's soccer team put on quite the show for their fans who showed up to watch the program's home opener for 2013 against the Bears of Truett-McConnell College.  The two teams combined for a pair of goals no more than 30 seconds apart after nearly 80 scoreless minutes before Piedmont's Laura Goodwin was able to net the winner in the first overtime frame for a 2-1 Piedmont victory.

The Lady Lions controlled much of the play throughout the match holding a 19 to 9 shot advantage in the game that stretched nearly 100 minutes.  PC took control early with several near misses in the opening 45 as Lady Lions continued to get in behind the Truett back four only to be thwarted by the Bears' keeper, Emily Beche who had nine saves on the evening.

As the clock continued to tick down in the second half with the match appearing like one destined for overtime, junior midfielder Shayna Rogers got the home fans on their feet breaking through the back line of Truett off a well place layoff pass from freshman Savannah Castles.  Rogers settled the pass to her feet burying her chance past out coming keeper Beche rattling the net in front of the Walker faithful.  With fans exploding still from the score by PC to go up 1-nil, the Lady Lions quickly found themselves clutching to their lead just seconds later as Truett pushed into the final third.

Less than 30 seconds after Piedmont gained the advantage, Truett was pulled level by a score from Tania Perez whose finish on a service from wide right put the score at one a piece with a little over 10 to play.  The two would battle down the stretch for chances to end it in regulation with Piedmont's best chance coming from the foot of youngster Megan Hatfield whose effort found the hands of Beche in goals keeping the score deadlocked at 1-1.

Leading the team with her five shots on the night, Hatfield was amongst a group of forwards that caused the Bears havoc all night along with Castles, Taylor Hockley, Meghan Heim, Nicole Entinger and senior Laura Goodwin.  Goodwin, who had already tabbed a gamewinner just this past Sunday against Guilford, looked to once again come to the rescue for the team winning possession and hurtling towards goal with the Truett back line retreating.

Finding space from about 15 yards outside the 18, Goodwin cracked a shot from distance to test the Truett keeper who was able to get a hand to the effort, but could not keep it from dropping into the back of the net for the gamewinner.  Goodwin's fourth shot of the evening, the senior from Snellville gave Piedmont its second win of the 2013 season tabbing her second straight deciding goal.

The Lady Lion soccer team, now standing at 2-1 overall on the season, will have a week-long break from competition before hosting Oglethorpe University on Thursday, September 12th.  Kickoff for the mid-week match between the two Georgia schools is set for 7:00 pm.
