Early Goal All Lions Need to Beat Trinity Baptist College 1-0 at Home

Junior forward Vincent Thomas had the game-winning goal in the third minute off a Justin Whitaker assist to give the Lions their win over Trinity Baptist College today.
Box Score Demorest, GA -- In a fast-paced match that saw few breaks save halftime, the Lions finished their first real chance on goal early against Trinity Baptist College to come away with a 1-0 win at Walker Field. The Lions outshot the Trinity Eagles 20-7 in the match with numerous chances by the Lions on frame.

Less than three minutes into the match, goalkeeper Kenneth Hearn distributed a strong punt to the opponent's defensive third where senior forward Justin Whitaker was waiting. With his back to goal, the striker touched the ball neatly around his defender to Vincent Thomas making a run through the box. Thomas took the ball in stride and buried the game-winning goal in the back post side netting to get the crowd on their feet. With the goal, the Lions were able to develop a controlling atmosphere for the rest of the half.

Early in the second period, the Lions continued to move the ball forward and get chances on goal. VIncent Thomas had three more shots on goal in the match with several breakaways saved by the Trinity goalkeeper. The Eagles were nowhere close to defeated though, as they pressured hard and fast as well. Hearn kept his defense in line and didn't face a shot in the second half due to solid communication between he and the defense. After assisting Thomas, Justin Whitaker had several opportunities of his own on goal – he totaled 5 shots in the match behind Thomas' 6  but none were sufficient to reach the net before the end of ninety minutes in the victory.

Thomas' goal makes him the fifth individual scorer for the Lions going into their next match tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. against non-conference opponent Sewanee at Walker Field. The Lions are now 2-5 overall.
