Lions Fall In Extra Innings To Methodist University 4-3

Logan Pethel led the offense going 2-5 with an RBI as the Lions fell to Methodist University 4-3 in ten innings.
Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina - In a back and forth affair the Piedmont College baseball team fell to USA South Conference host Methodist University by the score of 4-3 in extra innings. The Lions were able to tie the score at 3-3 in the top of the ninth before the homestanding Monarchs found the game-winner in the bottom of the tenth.

Piedmont notched a single run in the first as Logan Pethel drove in Keith Grabowski with a two-out RBI-single. The Monarchs would quickly answer with a single run in the first to tie the score. The Lions would add a second run in the third as Josh Bailey posted an RBI-single.

After Methodist tied the score at 2-2 in the fifth the home team capitilized on three Piedmont errors to take the lead 3-2.

In the top of the ninth Grabowski came thru tying the score with a two-out single sending the game into extra innings. After the Lions went scoreless in the top of the tenth the Monarchs posted the walk-off win with a two-single.

Chris Goershel threw five complete innings allowing only two runs and earning the no-decision. Freshman Allen Tokarz took the tough luck decision going four and two thirds innings allowing only one run.

The Lions, now 10-8 overall and 7-4 in the USA South Conference, will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow, March 10 with game time set for 2:00.
