Box Score 2 DEMOREST, Georgia - The Piedmont College baseball team bounced back this afternoon at Loudermilk Field taking a pair of USA South Conference member North Carolina Wesleyan College by the scores of 4-1 and 5-4. The Lions were able to pound out a combined 22 hits including four extra base hits en route to the victories.
In the opener the Battling Bishops jumped out with a single run in the second to take the early advantage. The Lions countered in the third as
Colton Bryant posted an RBI-groundout scoring Kevin D'Antignac who led off the inning with a single.
The Lions would take the lead in the seventh as
Garrett Lovelace drilled a double scoring
Logan Pethel from second. The home team would add a pair of insurance runs in the eighth as
Josh Bailey connected on a two-run homer extending the margin to 4-1.
Starter
Chris Goershel went seven complete innings for his first victory of the season while the tandem of
Josh Thomas and
Jacob Brewster closed out the visitors in the final two innings.
In the second game the Lions opened the contest with a pair of runs on four hits in the first inning. The Battling Bishops posted single runs in the next two innings to tie the score at 2-2. Piedmont would add a pair of runs in the sixth as
Michael Barnes and Bailey posted runs batted in. After NC Wesleyan tied the score in the seventh the Lions would add the game-winner in the eighth.
Reliever
Allen Tokarz earned the victory while Brewster posted his second save of the day, becoming the first pitcher in the NCAA Division-III era to record two saves in the same day.
Piedmont, now 9-7 overall and 6-3 in the USA South, will travel to Fayetteville, NC on Friday, March 8 to take on Methodist University starting at 7:00.
