Box Score 2 DEMOREST, Georgia - The Piedmont College baseball team split a double header with visiting USA South Conference member Ferrum College this afternoon taking the opener 11-1 but dropping the nightcap 9-1. The split gave the Lions the series win after taking the opening game 4-3 in 12 innings last night.
In the opener Piedmont exploded with 11 runs on 15 hits in their eight innings of offense.
Josh Bailey opened the game with a three-run blast in the first inning to give the Lions the 3-0 advantage. After Ferrum posted a single run in the fourth PC answered with eight runs on seven hits in the next three innings.
Keith Grabowski led the offense going 4-4 with three runs scored while
Tate Koons added a 2-3 day with four runs scored and an RBI. Bailey notched a pair of hits, four RBI's and two runs scored while
Michael Barnes chipped-in going 1-3 with a run and RBI respectively. Fellow freshman
Evan Gresham added three RBI's and a 1-3 day at the plate.
The run support was more than enough for starter
Chris Goershel who went eight full innings allowing one run while striking out seven for his second win of the season.
In the second game Ferrum opened the game with a two-run homer to take the advantage. After two more runs in the fourth the Lions cut the deficit to 4-1 as Bailey drove home Grabowski with an RBI-single. The Panthers would explode for five runs in the sixth and hold the Lions scoreless for the final four frames en route to the victory.
The Lions, now 14-12 overall and 11-7 in the USA South, will return to action again on Thursday, March 28 as they travel to conference host LaGrange College starting at 7:00.
