Demorest, GA - Piedmont Lions Tennis was unable to hold off the Captains of Christopher Newport University today, falling 3-6 at the Burgen Tennis Courts in a USA South Conference match.

The Lions started off on the right foot when No.1 doubles pair Koen Gottenbos and Nick Hallberg secured a close, 9-7 victory. Piedmont's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles were not as fortunate with losses of 1-8 and 4-8 respectively to the Captains. In No. 1 singles, Gottenbos came up just short, falling in straight sets; 4-6, 4-6. Piedmont's only successes over the visiting Captains in singles came in No. 4 and No. 5. Joel Silverberg defeated Robbie Wagner in close sets 6-4, 7-5 followed by a victory for TREY MARTIN at No. 5, 6-2, 6-1.

The Lions (4-3, 2-2 USA South) face their next USA South opponent and in-state rival, LaGrange College, Wednesday in Demorest.
