GREENSBORO, North Carolina - In the second of the three-game USA South Conference series the Piedmont College baseball team edged host Greensboro College this afternoon by the score of 3-2. The Lions were able to overcome an early 2-0 deficit with single runs in three different innings en route to the victory.
After a scoreless top of the first the Pride took the early advantage with a pair of runs on as many hits. PC would respond with a single run in the third as
JOSH BAILEY plated
MATT YOUTSEY on a sacreifice-fly. Two innings later the Lions would knot the score at 2-2 as Youtsey would cross the plate again on a
TYLER MARCINKO sacrifice-fly, marking his first career RBI.
The score remained tied until the top of the eighth when Youtsey posted a two-out RBI-single plating Bailey, who walked to lead-off the inning, for the eventual game-winning run.
After allowing a pair of runs in the first sophomore
CHRIS GOERSHEL went six complete innings scattering six hits while striking out three hitters.
SETH SCHUTTER and
DREW STEPHENS posted shutout innings in the seventh and eighth with a strikeout apiece while Jake Brewster notched his first career save in the green and white with a scoreless ninth.
The win moves Piedmont to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the USA South Conference. The Lions will take on host Greensboro in the series finale tomorrow, February 10 with first-pitch scheduled for 1:00.
