DEMOREST, Georgia - In the 2013 home-opener at Walker Field the Piedmont College softball team completed a double header sweep of visiting non-conference opponent Elmira College this afternoon by the scores of 2-1 and 8-0. After a pitcher's duel that featured only six combined hits in the first game the Lady Lions bounced back with eight runs on seven hits in the nightcap.

The visiting Soaring Eagles jumped off the bus and posted a single run in the top of the first on a two-out RBI-single to take the early advantage. The Lady Lions would respond in the home half as MEGAN MCCLAIN ledoff with a triple and scored on an OLIVIA DUNCAN RBI-single.

The teams would remain knotted 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth when Piedmont opened the frame with a JAMIE DENNIS single. After an Elmira error put runners on the corners and TORI MITCHELL pinch-hit and plated the eventual game-winning RBI on a fielders choice.

The one-run lead would be more than enough for starting pitcher BRITTNEY HEAD who went the distance for her second win of the season. The righthander settled in after allowing a pair of hits in the first to post six hitless and scoreless innings while collecting four strikeouts.

In the finale the Lady Lions jumped out with five runs on four hits in the second inning to take control. The squad would add a single run in the third and a pair in the fourth to win the run-rule decision.

MEGAN KESLER led the offensive explosion going 2-3 with a pair of RBI's and a run scored while Dennis added a 2-2 day at the plate with a pair of runs scored. Jordan Ellingson posted her second win in as many starts going five full innings while striking out seven.

The wins move Piedmont to 4-0 on the young season. The women will travel to Fayetteville, NC for the Early Bird Tournament hosted by Methodist University on Friday, February 22 as they will take on Emory and Henry College starting at 9:00.
