Lady Hawks No Match for Piedmont Volleyball in 3-0 Straight Set Decision

The Piedmont volleyball team won in straight sets earlier today taking a 3-0 decision from the Lady Hawks of Huntingdon in a USA South showdown on the road.
Box Score Montgomery, AL - The Piedmont College volleyball team had little trouble knocking off USA South opponent Huntingdon College earlier today 3-0 on the road.  The contest away from home wrapped up a three-game weekend trip away from Demorest for the girls in green and gold who sit just two weeks away the conference tournament in Martinsville, Virginia.

Piedmont won the opening set of today's contest by a close 25-19 score before seeing the Lady Hawks get closer in the second despite taking the decision 25-23.  However, in the decisive third, the Lady Lions would set the score line straight with a dominant 25-13 winner to close out the match victory 3-0 on the Lady Hawks' home floor.

The win gives the Lady Lions a bit of momentum heading into the final few weeks of the season as they had dropped five of their last seven matches prior to today.  However, PC only has three matches remaining before heading into the conference championship tournament held in Martinsville to regain the same type of play that helped them to a 21-3 start through 24 matches.

The team's leader at the net was a familiar one in junior Kaitlin Norman who tallied 12 kills in 26 attempts with just two errors to hit .385 for the day.  Norman was the only player on Sunday to reach double figures in the kills column as she offered up a double-double performance for Piedmont Head Coach Sid Feldman with her 11 digs to add to her totals on the day.

Piedmont made only 10 errors on the attack today as a team while Huntingdon made 25 at the net, a major factor that resulted in the Lady Lions' dominant third set as the PC defense forced Huntingdon into nine errors during that decider.  Continuing her efficient season was Piedmont's Jennifer Opper who tallied a half dozen kills on 17 attempts with just one error to hit just shy of .300 for the day.  Opper has hit .294 on the season so far to lead Piedmont in that column.

The assist leader for PC was Xandy Green as the sophomore tallied 18 while youngster Heather LaPrade joined her teammate in double figure helpers with ten herself.  Katie Faith and Jessica Hollis joined teammate Kaitlin Norman in double-digit digs with 19 and 10 respectively to go with Norman's 11.

With the win Piedmont improves to 24-8 on the season representing an incredible .750 winning percentage on pace to be one of the best seasons in the history of the program.  The Lady Lions are also now 10-4 in conference play and firmly entrenched in the second spot of the South Division of the USA South Athletic Conference.

PC returns to the court this Wednesday night with an out-of-conference test at in-state rival Oglethorpe University.  The October 30th match is set for a 6:30 pm first serve in Atlanta, Georgia at the home of the Stormy Petrels.
