Hockley's Golden Goal Hands PC 1-0 Win Over Huntingdon and Perfect 2013 Season at Home

The 2013 Piedmont College women's soccer senior class went out on a dramatic note at Walker Athletic Complex with a 1-0 overtime win against Huntingdon College earlier today to post a perfect 8-0-1 record at home in 2013.
Box Score Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College women's soccer team made today's affair at Walker Athletic Complex an exciting one on Senior Day as the Lady Lions' Taylor Hockley scored in double overtime to defeat visiting Huntingdon College 1-0.  Outshooting the Lady Hawks 17-3 in regulation and 6-0 in the extra time, the golden goal that came in double overtime also handed Piedmont a perfect mark in home games during the 2013 season, the first time that feat has been accomplished since 1996.

PC created several chances in the early going of today's USA South match picking up eight shots in the first half.  However, the defense of the visiting Lady Hawks proved tough to break down as the Lady Lions could not get the score they wanted with the teams heading to the locker rooms at halftime tied at 0-0.

Despite not being able to find the back of the net, the Piedmont back four was given little trouble by the Huntingdon front runners as HC would only tally two shots in the second half after having only mustered a single effort in the first 45 minutes.

With time winding down in the second half, PC appeared to have scored the game winner with just a few minutes remaining though the goal would be chopped off due to an offside infraction.  Less than two minutes later, Piedmont again thought to have won the match with the ball finding the back of the Huntingdon net, but the cross had gone across the goal line out of bounds before the goal occurred, keeping the game scoreless through 90 minutes full.

Heading to overtime to decide a winner, Piedmont looked to get in behind for just one chance to win their 8th game of the year at home.  However, the home team created three chances that could not result in a goal during the first overtime and a second overtime period would be needed in Demorest between the two.

It was then that the junior Taylor Hockley would step up to score the first and only goal of the match when she broke free at the top of the penalty box to finish a batted ball in the 104th minute.  Her goal, on Huntingdon keeper Josie Byard who had 14 saves in the match, was the fourth of the season for the junior from McDonough, Georgia.

Getting the win in goal with a shutout was senior Marjorie Hammond who made a pair of saves in the appearance.  Senior Laura Goodwin led the team with her 10 shots in the match with seven of those finding the frame.

The win moves Piedmont to 12-2-1 on the year and 7-1-1 in conference play.  It also keeps perfect the Lady Lions' home record in 2013 for good at 8-0-1, the first undefeated season at home for the PC women's soccer program since the 1996 team went 5-0.

Piedmont returns to action less than a week from today traveling to take on USA South foe Greensboro College on October 25th.  The conference match is set for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
