Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia -- Piedmont College's
NIKKI MEANS scored a goal in the game's final ten minutes to lift the women's soccer team to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Greensboro College this afternoon in USA South Athletic Conference action at PC's Walker Field. The win moves PC to 8-3, 2-2 USA South and drops the visting Pride to 3-6 and 2-2 in league.
LAURA GOODWIN lit the scoreboard first in the game's seventh minute when she punched in a rebound in front of the GC goal. That goal would hold up until the sixth minute after halftime when Greensboro equalized on a Tiffany Walters goal with the assist credited to Erin Young.
The game's final 35 mintues would feature numerous scoring chances with both goalies holding strong. PC's
MARJORIE HAMMOND tallied four saves including three after halftime while her counterpart Jessica Thatcher tallied five saves with three in the final half.
Means' game-winner came in the game's 81st minute with the assist credited to
SHAYNA ROGERS.
"We are glad to get our first home conference win as the girls battled really well. Greensboro is a solid team and I thought we bounced back really well after conceding an early goal in the second half, " stated head coach
Stephen Andrew.
Greensboro held the advantage in shots 12-11 and in corner kicks 4-1.
Piedmont remains in USA South action tomorrow with a 1:00 kick off against visiting Averett University.
