Box Score RALEIGH, North Carolina -- Meredith College scored a goal in the game's final five minutes to give the host Angels a 3-2 USA South Athletic Conference victory over visiting Piedmont College this afternoon. The loss drops the Lady Lions to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
After Meredith carried a 1-0 lead into intermission on a Taylor Brown goal just five minutes into the game.
Three minutes into the second half, Meredith stretched the lead to 2-0 on a goal by Anna Smither. Piedmont would respond with a pair of
TAYLOR HOCKLEY goals in the 54th and 68th minutes with the second coming on an assist from Kelly Miller.
The Angels' game-winner came in the 85th minute on Brown's second goal of the night.
Meredith held advantages in shots (19-11) and corner kicks (9-0). For PC,
MARJORIE HAMMOND faced 10 shots on goal and recorded seven saves.
The victory moves Meredith to 6-2 overall as the Angels remain one of the three unbeaten teams in conference play at 3-0.
Piedmont returns to action with a short non-conference road trip to Atlanta on Tuesday to face Oglethorpe University with kick off set for 4:30 PM.
