Demorest, GA - The Lady Lions fought back from a 12-point halftime deficit to garner their 19th win of the season and extended their winning streak to six games. Senior
Sada Wheeler had a huge night, notching her 14th double-double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds to go with five blocks. Fellow senior
Shanice Wheeler also showed out with a double-double of 18 points and 12 boards. Piedmont held the lead early on but LaGrange took control and kept distance between the teams. The Lady Lions were within five with 8:24 to go, but the Lady Panthers slowly pulled away, stretching the lead to 14 before
SHANICE WHEELER hit a layup to take the women into the half down 12. The visitors were red-hot from the field, shooting 50-percent in the opening half, while Piedmont was trending in the opposite direction, connecting on only 27-percent of its field goals.
The second-half comeback was one for the ages, as the Lady Lions played with much more intensity, going on a blistering 28-4 run in the first 14 minutes. During the game-defining run,
SADA WHEELER became automatic from the field, dropping 10 points in that span alone. The lead was pushed to 12 for the Lady Lions after sophomore
Lauren Hamel converted a layup. Just as LaGrange began to mount its own comeback by pulling within six, senior
Amber Satterfield drilled a 3-pointer to go back up nine. Again the visitors gave it one last effort, making it a five-point game with 2:42 left on the clock.
Sada and
SHANICE WHEELER scored the next six points before junior
Alyssa Jones knocked down five free throws to seal the win. The women shot 83-percent from the charity stripe in the second half, while shooting 44-percent overall from the field. Satterfield and junior
Keiondria Thompson both reached double figures with 10 points apiece, as Jones ended with nine. The Lady Lions return to action Saturday at Maryville College at 2:00 pm. The women fell to the arch-rivals 45-41 in the latter part of January.
