Second Half Explosion Sends Piedmont Past Huntingdon In Regular Season Finale

Contact: Brian Carter, Interim Sports Information Director

Alyssa Jones' 11 points and 7 rebounds helped push the Lady Lions to their 21st win of the season in a road victory over Huntingdon. The Lady Lions closed the season in style with a monster second half scoring attack.
Box Score

Montgomery, AL - The Lady Lions' 33-26 halftime lead didn't result in such a close finish, as 56 second half points sent the women to an 89-63 win over Huntingdon on the road in the last game of the regular season.  Piedmont went up 7-0 in a heartbeat after a downtown shot by senior Amber Satterfield.  The Lady Hawks negated that with eight unanswered points to go on top by one five minutes into play.

The teams went back and forth throughout the rest of the half, alternating the lead and coming back to tie.  A jumper by Huntingdon with 22 seconds remaining in the first half pulled it within one of the lead as the teams went into the locker rooms.  The Lady Lions forced their hand coming out of the break, quickly pulling away.  An 11-0 run during the midway part of the closing half gave the visitors a very comfortable 19-point lead with under 12 to play.

Piedmont stretched the lead into the 20's, and got up to 27-up on the Great South Athletic Conference foes.  Senior Sada Wheeler led the attack with 20 points, while junior Keiondria Thompson dropped in 17.  Sophomore Lauren Hamel and junior Alyssa Jones also reached double figures with 13 and 11 points respectively.  The Lady Lions improved to 21-4 overall and 13-3 in the conference.  The GSAC Tournament begins Tuesday as the women await their opponent to be announced.
