Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia -- The Piedmont College men's basketball team opened its 2012-13 season tonight with an 84-71 home loss to Oglethorpe University in Cave Arena. The Stormy Petrels connected on 46% of their three-point baskets (15-32) and assisted on 21 of their 31 field goals en route to their second victory of the young season.
Piedmont jumped out to an early 8-3 lead but OU would respond with a 14-4 run over the next five minutes to take control of the game punctuated with one of Brandon Jovaag's six threes. The Stormy Petrels would extend their lead to double-figures with six minutes remaining in the first half and would lead by as many as 24 before intermission. WILL SKAGGS would trim the OU margin to 18 at half.
The Lions would show their grit and fought the Stormy Petrels in the second frame outscoring OU 45-40 after the break but the damage had been done. OU placed five players in double-figures led by Jovaag's game-high 20 points. Four other OU players each scored 11 points.
ALTON HONORS II made the most of his first game in a PC uniform with a 16 point outing on 5-10 from the floor.
TYLER ARNOLD and Jarey Brown each added 12 points apiece off the bench for the Lions with Brown adding a team best six rebounds. Skaggs ended the evening with eight points, six assists and three steals. PC's returning leading scorer
JESSIE JENKINS was plagued by foul trouble and collected only seven points in just 10 minutes of action.
PC held a 35-25 advantage on the glass and connected on 18-22 free throws compared to OU's 7-15.
The Lions return to action on November 28 when the team travels to Charlotte, NC to take on Johnson & Wales University with tip off set for 7:00 PM.
