Meredith Finds Late Golden Goal To End Women's Soccer Season

Dilyn MacLean recorded the team's lone shot on goal in the Lady Lions' 1-0 2OT loss at Meredith.
Box Score RALEIGH, North Carolina -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team saw its 2012 season come to end as host Meredith College found a golden goal late in double overtime to earn a 1-0 victory in quarterfinal action of the USA South Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.  After a 106:00 of scoreless soccer, MC's Jessie Davis found the game-winner off of an assist from Taylor Brown.

Meredith controlled most of the offensive play in a game dominated by the defenses as the Angels outshot fifth-seeded Piedmont 25-3 including 12-1 in shots on goal.  Meredith also held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

In goal MARJORIE HAMMOND posted three saves in the first half and Michaela Garnder tallied eight in the final 61 minutes of action. 

Senior DILYN MACLEAN recorded the team's lone shot on goal.

With the win, the fourth-seeded Angels advance to the USA South Fall Festival November 2-4 at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, VA.  The loss end the Lady Lions' season at 13-6-1.
