Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia -- The Piedmont College men's soccer team saw its 2012 season come to an end Saturday with a 4-1 loss at #14 Christopher Newport University in quarterfinal action of the USA South Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.  The Lions wrap up the season 6-10-2 overall.

The top-seeded Captains used an early goal by Denny Arinello with an assist from Jalon Brown to open the scoring at the 9:52 mark of the first half.  The eventual game-winner would come just a few minutes later at the 13:19 mark when CNU's Alex Makumbi would find the back of the net on a feed from Danny Franklin.

The Lions would respond at the 16:47 mark as PARKER YOUNG netted his first goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1.  The header goal came off of a BRADLEY THOMAS free kick.

With less than two minutes before half, the Captains would extend the lead to 3-1 on a Tommy O'Neal header goal assisted by a Noah Jefferson corner kick.

Brown would punctuate the scoring at the 67:19 mark with his 14th goal of the season with an assist from Noah Davis.

KENNETH HEARN recorded eight saves in goal for PC.  CNU outshot the Lions 25-3 and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

"CNU is well-deserving of their #14 national ranking.  We happy to have competed with them twice late in the season and finish on such a strong note," stated head coach Jimmy Stephens.

CNU (15-2-2) will advance to the USA South Fall Festival November 2-3 in Martinsville, VA.
