Piedmont College Athletic Communications

Emily Corsin recorded the Lady Lions' lone shot on goal in the team's 2-0 home loss to CNU.
Box Score DEMOREST, Georgia -- The visiting Captains of Christopher Newport University used a goal in each half to post a 2-0 USA South Athletic Conference victory over Piedmont College Sunday at Walker Field.  A pair of header goals by Annemarie Weaver was the difference as the loss drops PC to 12-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in league play.

CNU (9-8, 7-3 USA South) got on the board at the 27:57 mark when Weaver took a corner kick from Dani Gunderson and headed the ball off the bounce past PC keeper MARJORIE HAMMOND.  The 1-0 score would hold up until intermission, but it was another Weaver header off of a corner kick at the 71:24 mark that would provide the final margin.  The second assist was credited to Chelsea Wolfe.

Hammond rallied 11 saves on the afterooon while her counterpart Meghan Gumbs denied Piedmont's lone shot on goal in the second half which came off the foot of Emily Corsin.

CNU held a 20-6 advantage in shots and took all five of the game's corner kicks.

The loss now assures Piedmont a road contest in the opening quarterfinal round of the upcoming USA South Athletic Conference Championship set for October 27 with the host site still to be determined next week.
