Box Score

Decatur, GA - Piedmont got on the board early, quickly going up 7-0 before Agnes Scott recorded its first basket four minutes into action, but the visiting Lady Lions never relinquished the lead, taking a 60-45 Great South Athletic Conference win on the road.  Sada Wheeler scored eight of the first nine Piedmont points, and had all 10 of her first half points at the midpoint of the opening stanza.  The women led by as many as 13 before the half, taking a 28-18 padding into the locker room.

Senior Amber Satterfield played the opposite as fellow senior Wheeler.  While Wheeler was unstoppable early on, she finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, recording just four points in the final 30 minutes spanning both halves.  Satterfield meanwhile had just one first half basket, a downtown shot to give the Lady Lions an eight point lead with 14:28 to go.  However, the guard caught fire coming out of the break, scoring 14 to end with a team-high 17 points on five triples.

The Scotties closed to within three once in the first half with 13 minutes left on the board.  Junior Keiondria Thompson and senior Shanice Wheeler picked up the pace, scoring a combined 10 straight Piedmont points, as Wheeler converted a 3-point play at the free throw line, then buried a trey moments later to give the women the 13-point edge.  The second half saw the teams trade baskets for the first few minutes until both Wheelers added to the lead with back-to-back layups, first SADA WHEELER then SHANICE WHEELER to keep it a 13-point gap with 16 minutes left on the clock.

Nearly five minutes came off the board before the game's next points, coming from the Scotties.  The home team closed the deficit to 10, but Satterfield got hot from beyond the arc, hitting two triples in a 30-second span, then hitting her fourth of the game just two minutes later to push the lead to 16 and 7:43 to go.  A Satterfield layup and her fifth outside hit of the night in a 40-second window put the women up 18 with just 3:42 left, icing the game.

Thompson got a layup to fall in the final minutes to give Piedmont its largest lead of 22 before the Scotties scored the last seven points in the contest while holding the Lady Lions scoreless the rest of the way, but it wasn't enough as the road warriors took the 15-point decision.  After Satterfield's 17 and SADA WHEELER's 14 points, sophomore Lauren Hamel came in at nine points, while SHANICE WHEELER added eight.  Thompson and junior Alyssa Jones both added six points apiece in the win.  Piedmont is now 11-2 on the road this year, and improve to 16-3 overall and 8-2 in GSAC play.  The Lady Lions will take to the court again Thursday night at home against visiting Wesleyan College in a game that originally was planned for Wednesday, but was bumped back one day.
