Winston-Salem, NC - Just four days after suffering their first loss of the 2011-12 season to a tough LaGrange team on the road, the No. 18 Lady Lions bounced back in usual fashion, defeating Salem 73-51 in a Great South Athletic Conference away game.  Four women scored in double figures, led by senior Sada Wheeler, who tallied game-highs 17 points and nine rebounds to go with three blocks.

Piedmont jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first half and never looked back, taking a 19-point lead into the locker room, up 39-20.  The Spirits, who are 1-10 overall and 0-6 following the home loss to the Lady Lions, faced a stingy defense in the first half.  The Lady Lions held Salem to a mere 31-percent shooting from the field, making just eight shots, despite making three of four from long distance.  Piedmont also made Salem earn all of its points, allowing it only two attempts from the free throw line.  Salem converted on one of the two shots before intermission.

The Spirits showed better in the second half, but the Lady Lions still held them to 33-percent overall.  The defense made it tough for the home team to get off many shots, as the Spirits attempted 56 total shots to the Lady Lions' 72.  The visitors outrebounded the Spirits 52-27, forced 29 turnovers and came away with 19 steals.  Even with Salem's improved offense in the closing stanza, Piedmont kept pace en route to the easy 21-point victory.

Amber Satterfield continued her impressive senior season with a 12-point output coming from all 3-pointers, making four of eight from downtown.  Sophomore Lauren Hamel and junior Lauren Anderson added 11 points apiece in the win, hauling in seven and five rebounds, respectively.  Freshman Symone Bell had a solid game as well with six points, seven boards, two assists and two steals in just 16 minutes of playing time.

Piedmont moves to 13-1 and 5-1 in GSAC play, and will look to win on back-to-back days when taking on Greensboro College Monday at 2:00 pm in North Carolina.  The No. 20 Pride have had a solid season, with their only hiccup coming against the Lady Lions in early December.  Piedmont took a 12-point win in the battle of two undefeated teams, with Wheeler shutting down Greensboro's All-American Danielle Duncan.
