Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team took care of visiting rival Toccoa Falls College earlier tonight handing the Eagles a 4-0 defeat while picking up their third straight win to start the 2011 season.  Dominating the shat sheet with 37 shots compared to just one for Toccoa Falls, the Piedmont defense was up to the task as well helping the Lady Lions to a third straight clean sheet as well pushing that scoreless streak to now 270 total minutes on the season.

23 different Lady Lions saw action in tonight's one-sided contest as Piedmont saw its 2010 scoring leader Laura Goodwin notch a pair of goals just about a minute apart early on in the first half.  Junior Dilyn MacLean assisted with Goodwin's first score right before MacLean's fellow midfielder Justine Clay slipped a ball in behind the Toccoa defense for Goodwin to finish.

After 40 scoreless minutes, Piedmont would once again get back-to-back lightning strikes with goals in the 52nd and 56th minutes as Clay scored the first of the two on a layoff a the top of the box from MacLean.  Four minutes later, junior Macie Rooke's through ball helped give Emily Shattuck a chance at her first collegiate goal which the freshman collected on a strike over the head of the Eagles keeper.

Leading the way in Piedmont's shot count was Laura Goodwin who posted eight total chances with six on them being on goal.  Freshman Shayna Rogers had seven of her own while senior Justine Clay put all four of her shots on the evening on the frame including her goal in the 52nd minute.

Tallying the lone shot for Toccoa was Kallie Richards as Piedmont keeper Marjorie Hammond needed to make just one save to post her third clean sheet of 2011 and fourth in her collegiate career.  Piedmont also held the edge in corners as well tabbing five tries to none for the visitors.

The Lady Lions move to 3-0 on the season with the shutout victory.  Piedmont's next contest will be the first road test of the year as the squad travels to Virginia to face Sweet Briar College in a 1:00 afternoon contest on Saturday, September 10th.
