Box Score
Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team had little trouble staying unbeaten getting their tenth win of the season earlier tonight by virtue of a 10-0 shutout of visiting Great South Athletic Conference member Wesleyan College. The Pioneers were held without a shot while Piedmont piled up 57 total with 32 of those finding the frame in match as the Lady Lions scored in double digits for the second time this season.
Getting the scoring started was junior
Dilyn MacLean who notched her 7th goal of the season and first of two goals on the night when she roofed a
Shayna Rogers through ball over the head of Wesleyan keeper Abby Stephens in the 13th minute of play. Rogers then tallied her own score eight minutes later when she put a
Laura Goodwin cross to the back corner.
MacLean would put away a Stephens rebounded save just three minutes later for her second goal of the evening making the score 3-0 just 23 minutes in. Sophomore
Meghan Heim then tallied two goals in less than ten minutes looping another Goodwin cross over the head of Stephens before burying a brilliant through ball from senior
Justine Clay in the 37th. Less than two full minutes later Piedmont would cap off its first half scoring at six with freshman
Taylor Hockley earning her first collegiate goal off an assist from Heim.
With the Lady Lions ahead 6-0 at the break, Piedmont continued to apply the offensive pressure in the second half getting a goal from
Cydney Goodwin in the 57th minute to go up by seven. In the 67th minute, sophomore
Hayleah Waters netted her first goal of the season putting away a corner kick from Rogers who tallied three helpers on the evening. About a minute later, junior
Macie Rooke earned her fifth score of 2011 getting past keeper Abby Stephens before tucking home the home team's ninth goal of the night.
Putting the exclamation point on the night for PC was defender
Kelsey Schaffernoth who drilled a header off a
Shayna Rogers corner past the Pioneers' keeper for her first collegiate goal. Keeping the clean sheet in goals for Piedmont was sophomore keeper
Marjorie Hammond whose eighth shutout of 2011 also moved her record to 10-0-1 as a starter on the year.
The Lady Lions stay undefeated at 10-0-1 while moving to 2-0 in GSAC action. Piedmont will have the weekend off before returning to the pitch on Tuesday, October 4th when they host another evening contest under the lights at Walker Athletic Complex with Agnes Scott College coming to town for a conference battle. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
