Box Score

LaGrange, GA -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout on the road at Great South Athletic Conference member LaGrange College earlier this afternoon to open up its 2011 league schedule with a win.  The Lady Lions outshot the hosting Panthers eight to six making a chance late in the second half count for the close victory.

The play was even between the two conference foes in the first 45 minutes of play with each team tallying multiple chances on goal while the score staying tied at 0-0 through halftime.  In the second half, the visitors began to open up play a bit creating more pressure on the LaGrange back four with time ticking away.

In the 71st minute, Piedmont would get the score it was looking for when sophomore Haley Grimes laced a free kick into the far corner past Panther keeper Chelsea Totaro.  That unassisted strike, Grimes' third score of the 2011 season, proved to be the final difference with Piedmont winning 1-0 going away.

The victory keeps the Lady Lions unbeaten at 9-0-1 while PC starts 1-0 in GSAC action.  Piedmont returns to the pitch this Thursday with another conference contest when they Lady Lions host Wesleyan College on Thursday, September 29th at Walker Athletic Complex.  Kickoff in the night contest is set for 6:00 pm.
