LaGrange, GA -- The Piedmont College men's tennis team cruised past third-seeded LaGrange College 5-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference championship tournament earlier this afternoon.  The Lions took all three doubles decisions before swiping wins at #4 and #5 singles to take the overall match decision by a shutout score moving into the tournament's championship match set for Sunday.

In doubles action, the pair of Christopher Davidson and Justin Gilleland rolled to a straight set 8-0 victory at the #3 doubles slot while Moses Das and Patrick Steck took an 8-4 win at the top doubles slot.  With the Lions up 2-0, a tight 9-7 victory at the #2 spot care of Andrew Babb and Joel Silverberg handed Piedmont a 3-0 advantage heading into the singles side of today's match.

Needing only to get to five decisions to push a match victory, PC then got victories at #4 and #5 singles from Davidson and Andrew Babb respectively.  Davidson's win came 6-0, 6-2 while Babb's victory was a 6-0, 6-1 decision as the Lions clinched a spot in the GSAC championship match set for Sunday afternoon.

The win moves the team to 10-6 on the year as the Lions open up tourney play 1-0.  Piedmont now faces the top-seeded Hawks of Huntingdon College at 1:00 on Sunday, May 1 in the event's championship game for the right to be called 2011 GSAC champions.
