LaGrange, GA -- The Piedmont College tennis teams split a pair of conference decisions earlier today with the men's team defeating LaGrange College with ease 8-1 while the women fell in a spirited 6-3 decision.  The men claimed all but one point in their match victory dropping just a lone doubles match in the early going while the women fell victim to a poor start failing to climb out of a 3-0 deficit after doubles action falling 6-3.

All three of the Lady Lions' points came in singles play with the highlight coming from #2 singles player Jennifer Granlund who cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory.  For Granlund, the win was her third of the season in singles action and her first at the #2 singles slot.

Also notching singles victories for the women was newcomer Maria Carter and freshman Cydney Goodwin who grabbed wins at the #5 and #6 singles slots.  Each of the top two doubles matches were extremely close with the Panthers taking both matches by a combined four games as the #2 battle went to a 9-7 decision.

In men's action, the Lions got off to a good start with Moses Das and Patrick Steck claiming their seventh doubles victory of the 2011 season by a 9-7 score.  That doubles win paired with a victory at #3 doubles by Christopher Davidson and Justin Gilleland gave PC a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Piedmont then grabbed all six singles matches to sweep the individual side of the contest for the decisive 8-1 conference victory.  Das pushed his season singles record to 7-5 overall with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #1 while moving to 2-1 in conference action on the season as well.

The Lions improve to 7-6 overall with the victory and go to 2-2 in GSAC play.  The Lady Lions fall to 3-8 on the year while moving to 1-3 in conference action.  Both teams return to the court when they host Maryville College for a rescheduled match set for a 3:00 start on Monday, April 11.
