Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College baseball team won a wild one over the visiting Tigers of DePauw University earlier this evening taking an 11-6 victory at Loudermilk Field.  The two ball clubs combined for 13 runs in the first three innings alone as the Lions used its seven over the first three frames along with late insurance to skate to their third consecutive win.

The two teams swaped runs back and forth in the early going trading the lead four times over the first three innings until Piedmont claimed the lead for good on a two-RBI single from shortstop Dale Bartek in the bottom of the third.  The Lions added another Bartek RBI in the bottom of the fifth and a three spot in the bottom of the seventh spurred by two more Bartek runs batted in to claim the eventual 11-6 win.

GSAC Pitcher of the Week Dusty Black picked up the win in relief going two and a third allowing just a single hit while holding the Tigers without a score fanning five.  Retiring seven of the nine batters he faced, the senior picks up his second win in as many appearances to move to an even 3-3 in 2011.

Offensively, a slew of Lions posted top-notch days at the plate including Kevin McConnell who went three for five with three runs scored.  Piedmont's most productive player in the RBI department was shortstop Dale Bartek who collected five on the day going two for four while also picking up six assist in the field.

Outfielder Kyle Davis continued his most successful season yet as a Lion going two for four with a pair of RBIs while infielder John Duke keeps putting a nice finsihing tourch on his Piedmont career going two for three with two runs scored and three assists at the second base spot.

Clean-up hitter Curtis Cornett scored a pair of runs and picked up three more RBIs on a two for four performance that included a first inning, three-run homer.  Since being moved to the four hole on the weekend, the first baseman is nine for 16 with seven RBIs, two homers, and a pair of doubles.

The victory is the third straight for the now 15-9 Lions who move to 10-3 in the friendly confines of Loudermilk Field.  Piedmont now turns its eyes to a sort of subway series as they play cross-state rival Emory University this weekend in the two's annual away-home-away series.  Game one will be Friday, March 25 as first pitch is set for 3:00 in the afternoon on the campus of Emory in Atlanta.
