Winston-Salem, NC -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team rolled to a 92-49 victory on the road at Great South Athletic Conference member Salem College earlier this afternoon. Winning their fourth straight game overall, today's 43 point win was also the fourth consecutive conference victory for the women's basketball squad and the first of the season coming by more than 40 points.
Piedmont rode a hot shooting first half to their ninth league win of the season connecting on over 64% of their tries from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play. Included in that successful start was a half-court three-pointer that
Amber Satterfield drained to end the first half and send PC to the locker room with a 59-19 lead they would not relinquish.
Leading the Lady Lions in the scoring column was the team's lone senior
Laura Simmons who posted 14 total points. Adding a trio of rebounds to her efforts, Simmons' team-high marked the fourth time that the veteran post player has led PC in scoring this season.
Posting yet another double-double was forward
Sada Wheeler who collected 12 points down low for the visitors while also pulling down 15 rebounds. Wheeler's double-double performance is the fifth such performance for the junior out of Gainesville, GA in the last six games for the Lady Lions.
The victory improves Piedmont to 15-5 overall, their best 20-game record since the 2007-08 season that garnered the program's last GSAC championship and NCAA appearance. The win also hands the squad their ninth in conference play this season. PC will momentarily take a break from its league schedule to face Greensboro College, one of their five losses on the year, in a re-match on the road on Sunday, January 6 for a 2:00 tip-off.
