Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team rolled to their tenth Great South Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 89-43 win over visiting Wesleyan College earlier this evening in the Cave.  For the Lady Lions, the 46 point victory marked the second time this season that the squad has picked up a win by 40 points or more having defeated league member Salem College by 43 just ten days ago.

Piedmont never trailed in tonight's action and spent much of the first half causing havoc on the Pioneer offense holding the visitors to just 16% shooting from the field in the opening period.  Wesleyan managed just four field goals in the first 20 minutes of this evening's contest and was held scoreless by the stingy PC defense for a stretch of over 11 minutes in the first half.

After Piedmont opened up a 21-7 lead in the opening eight minutes, the Pioneers connected on a three-point bucket to bring the PC advantage down to 11.  However, that would be the last field goal for visiting Wesleyan until the 1:17 mark of the first half while PC rattled off 25 straight points including five tri-fectas from four different Lady Lions on the way to taking a 48-13 lead at the break.

Following the intermission, Wesleyan would begin to find their shooting groove connecting on four second half threes to help boost their shooting percentage above 25% on the night.  However, the damage had already been done by the home team as Coach Purdy's Lady Lions collected yet another victory in GSAC play snapping a three-game skid overall.

Leading the way in the scorig column was a mixture of youth and experience as freshman Keiondria Thompson and senior Laura Simmons each posted 15 points on the night.  Thompson shot an incredible six of seven coming off the bench for Head Coach Jamie Purdy while Simmons tallied her 15 points on seven of nine shooting as the veteran post player fell just a rebound shy of a double-double performance in the conference decision.

Just behind the pair of scoring leaders was junior Sada Wheeler who dropped 14 total points while picking up a half dozen rebounds as well.  The forward also picked up a pair of blocks and an assist in PC's winning effort that sent the team to their 16th win of 2010-11.

Two more Lady Lions scored nine a piece in youngsters Lauren Anderson and Danielle Hendrick.  Anderson collected four assists and tied her season high shooting percentage hitting 75% from the field while Hendrick collected all nine of her points from three-point land.

Sophomore point guard Alyssa Jones dished out a trio of helpers without turning the ball over once in her 17 minutes of action.  Fellow guard Shanice Wheeler led the team in assists on the evening posting five to just a single turnover and picked up three steals on the defensive end.

Freshman Sydney Seitz impressed off the bench once more tallying six points and accounting for seven of the team's 51 boards.  Seitz helped her Lady Lions nearly double the Pioneer rebounding total while shooter McKenzie Reeves was a solid two for three from dowtown to chip in six points.

The victory moves Piedmont to 10-3 in conference play and 16-8 overall.  The Lady Lions will need a win on Saturday, February 19 when the team takes on Huntingdon College in the Cave in a 2:00 contest in order to stay in the hunt for second place in the GSAC standings and the crucial championship tournament first round bye.
