Box Score

La Verne, CA - Seniors Shanice Wheeler and Amber Satterfield had unforgettable nights as the #22 Lady Lions still remain unbeaten after 10 games through the schedule.  Piedmont came out on top against the University of La Verne, 97-84, giving the women a three game sweep in their California trip.

Wheeler dominated with a 26-point output, and hauled in nine rebounds to go along with it.  The guard was 12-for-17 from the floor, scoring 18 of her points in the second half.  Satterfield was on fire from downtown, sinking eight tri-fectas as part of her 25 point, six rebound performance.  She logged all 40 minutes of playing time in the victory.

Overshadowed but not to be forgotten was the usual culprit, Sada Wheeler.  The senior notched her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 13 while collecting 12 boards.  Junior Keiondria Thompson also had a big night with 17 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Lions had their hands full with La Verne, who despite its 1-6 record, lives and dies by the 3-pointer.  The home team proved that with 33 attempts from 3-point land, making 11 of them.  However, Satterfield stepped up with one of her biggest performances in her career with eight treys of her own.  Collectively, Piedmont went 11-for-23 at a 48-percent clip on 3-pointers.

La Verne used a 13-2 run, highlighted by three daggers from long distance, to take a 12-point lead midway through the opening half.  They still held a double-digit lead with 7:30 remaining, but the Lady Lions responded at the right time. They took the wind out of the sails of the home team, going on a 14-2 tear that began with a pair of free throws from freshman Symone Bell and ended with Thompson's layup to break the tie and give Piedmont the one-bucket lead at the two-minute mark.

Thompson struck again with 18 ticks on the clock to give PC another slim lead, 45-43, going into intermission.  The first stanza saw five ties and six lead changes, while La Verne harvested 29 of its points from the bench.

The Lady Lions struck quickly in the second half with a 9-0 run that included eight straight points by SHANICE WHEELER.  The women held a 10-point lead just two minutes and change into the closing half.  However, an 11-2 outburst by the home team knotted the game at 61 with under 13 minutes remaining in the game.

Piedmont would regain control often and retake the lead, but La Verne stayed on the Lady Lions' heels, pulling within three points with 5:51 to go.  That would be as close as Piedmont would allow them to get.  The women and Satterfield used their own 11-2 run in the next few minutes to ice the game.  Satterfield buried a couple long ones in the critical run.  With two and a half left on the game clock and the Lady Lions up 12, La Verne was forced to jack up triples as time ticked away.  Piedmont maintained the advantage and put the game on cruise control near the end as it took the 13-point victory for its 10th win of the season, staying perfect.

The game saw nine total ties and 10 changes in the lead by the time the final buzzer sounded.  The University of La Verne used the bench for most of its offensive power, as the subs accounted for 53 points.  Junior Lauren Anderson chipped in with eight points on the night as well.  The Lady Lions return home after the long trek out to California.  The women will have a nice, well-earned respite before hitting the court again Jan. 4 against Great South Athletic Conference foes Agnes Scott College at home inside Cave Arena, where tipoff is set for 6:00 pm.
