Atlanta, GA -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team saw their 2011 season come to a close earlier this evening with a 3-0 first round loss in the NCAA National Tournament to #5 Emory University.  The nationally ranked Eagles could not break though in the first 45, but scored a trio of goals in the second half to keep their undefeated season alive at 16-0-2 and knock the Lady Lions out of postseason play.

In the first half, Piedmont allowed a bevy of chances to Emory but did well to keep the Eagles out of the back of the net as sophomore keeper Marjorie Hammond came up with eight saves in the opening period.  PC defended the attack of one of the nation's top teams well as the Eagles continued to apply pressure on the Lady Lion back line.

With the two teams tied at halftime 0-0, Emory came out on fire following the intermission putting several chances together in the opening minutes of the second half.  It was in the 50th minute of the contest when the Eagles finally broke through as Merrill Bachouros scored the first of two goals for her on the evening when she looped a long distance left footed strike past Hammond for a 1-0 EU lead.

Bachouros connected just two minutes later with Clare Mullins to score the second Eagles goal for a 2-0 advantage marking only the fourth time that PC trailed by multiple goals in the 2011 season.  In the 69th minute, Lidija Barauskas put the home team up 3-0 with her fifth score of the season putting away a batted ball in the box.

The final would be the three goal margin for Emory as Piedmont fell for just the third time in 2011 ending their season at 17-3-1 overall representing an .850 winning percentage, the best such mark in the now 19 year history of the women's soccer program at Piedmont.
