Box Score

Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College men's soccer team could not overcome a 2-0 deficit with a late surge of offensive power earlier this evening falling 2-1 to visiting Emory University.  The Eagles scored first and added a second half score to steal the advantage, but a Piedmont goal with less than five minutes remaining in the second half kept the match exciting for the hometown fans at Walker Athletic Complex.

In the opening period, Emory's Dylan Price broke a 0-0 tie with his finish off a deflected clearance in front of the Piedmont net after a scoreless 35 minutes to begin the evening contest.  The Eagles held a 6-1 shot advantage putting all six chances on target and also held the 1-0 lead through the halftime break in Demorest.

After the intermission, Emory really picked up its offensive pressure peppering Piedmont keeper Brian Gaid with 12 total chances in the second half seven of which found the frame forcing the senior to make several key saves.  On one of those seven chances however, Emory would double its margin as a cross from the Eagles' Price fell to the feet of Andrew Jones at the top of the six yard box in the 74th minute with Jones calmly tucking the ball past the outcoming Gaid for the visitors' second goal of the evening.

Now up 2-0, the Lions looked to make it a game late as junior Sidney Smith notched his team leading 10th goal of the season in the 86th minute when he carried a Wes Synder header past the Emory back four before blasting it past Eagles keeper Andrew Goldbloom.  Despite having a few chances to equalize over the final few minutes, the Lions failed to pull level dropping the eventual 2-1 decision to the visitors.

The loss drops PC to 5-7-2 on the year.  The Lions look to break their current two game slide with a win this Saturday, October 22nd when the team travels to Montgomery, AL for a conference matchup with Huntingdon College.  Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm EST.
