Contact: Timmy McCormack, Sports Information Director

WCON is set to broadcast three Piedmont basketball doubleheaders in January. Broadcasts will be able to be heard both over the airwaves and online.
Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College Department of Athletics has announced that WCON will broadcast three basketball doubleheaders in the month of January against Great South Athletic Conference member schools. Coverage of the Piedmont basketball games will be broadcast both online and over the airwaves while a newly formed PC Pep Band, who made their debut just this past Sunday, will add to the atmostphere of the Lion broadcasts.

Well established in the North Georgia area, WCON has been on the airwaves since 1953 while WCON-FM went on the air in 1965 as a Class A station. The station has since upgraded to a C-2 with 50,000 watts of power extending its coverage all over North Georgia while reaching into the metro Atlanta area and to Greenville, SC.

WCON's President and General Manager is distinguished Piedmont College alumnus Mrs. Bobbie Foster who has provided countless contributions to both the Piedmont College and Habersham County communities.

Danny Daniels will be the primary play-by-play announcer while Michael Harvey will provide color commentary for the trio of Lion broadcasts. Daniels is a long time face around the Athens and Winder sports media scene having worked with three Georgia television stations and a pair of Georgia radio stations.

Currently the Sports Editor for the Walton Tribune and Loganville Tribune, Daniels was the play-by-play voice for the University of Georgia women's basketball team for over a decade from 1994 to 2004. Stepping in to provide color commentary for the three broadcasts will be Michael Harvey also of WCON.

The games that will be available for broadcast coverage are all men's/women's doubleheaders in the month of January including a pair of games against LaGrange College which has been postponed due to winter weather, Covenant College on January 18, and Maryville College on January 22. The broadcast can be heard on either of WCON's main radio stations, 107.7 FM or 1450 AM, as well as live online at links provided on WCON's main webpage. Links will also be provided in the details sections of the men's and women's basketball schedules at PiedmontLions.com.

Adding to the home atmosphere will be the new Piedmont College Pep Band who made their debut this month beginning with the men's game against Rust College on January 9. Led by PC faculty member Lee Ewing, the group is scheduled to make appearances at four more men's home games including contests on January 12, 18, and 22 with their finale performance coming on February 2 at the Lions' game vs. Berry College at 7:00. Media and pep band schedules are subject to change.

As a charter member of the Great South Athletic Conference, Piedmont College is a member of the NCAA conducting its athletic program in Division III.
